The Desná Dam was a waterworks built on the Bílá Desná in the Jizera Mountains. The dam on the Bílá Desná, including the connecting tunnel, was completed in September 1915, and it was approved in November. About ten months later, on the afternoon of September 18, 1916, two forest workers noticed a small stream flowing out of the dam body. Seventy minutes after the stream was noticed, the entire dam breached and the accumulated water poured out of the reservoir. With its force, it destroyed houses in the valley below the dam and also claimed human lives.
