The history of Bystřice “closer to Pernštejn Castle”, as the old designation says, indicating the town’s affiliation with this estate, begins with the medieval colonization of this part of the Vysočina Highlands at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. The town reached a new boom after the reforms of Maria Theresa and Joseph II. Bystřice became one of the three most important centers of cloth production in Moravia. From 1881 the official name of the town was Bystritz ob.Pernstein – Bystřice nad Pernštýnem; from May 10, 1925 the epithet was changed to “nad Pernštejnem.” In the 19th century the town experienced economic prosperity, when there was a major development of crafts. The greatest building boom is associated with uranium ore mining in the 1960s. Over the course of several decades the town tripled its population. Nature between the deep valley of the Svratka and the foothills of the Žďár Hills invites trips, excursions, and walks regardless of the season. The beauty of the surroundings of Bystřice promises a rapid development of tourism in the future.
