Nové Město na Moravě enjoyed its greatest prosperity during the Renaissance under the Lords of Pernštejn. The preserved historic core of the town forms an urban heritage zone, complemented by sculptural decoration of the streets and squares. Among the most important monuments are the Catholic Church of St. Kunhuta, the building of the old town hall, and the château.

Thanks to its geographical location, altitude, and climatic conditions, the town hosts sporting events of world significance. The Zlatá lyže cross-country skiing race is held here; it was part of the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup. It was replaced by the Biathlon World Cup races; moreover, the Biathlon World Championships took place here in 2013 and 2024. Every year, a Mountain Bike World Cup race is also held here.
