The Broumovské stěny National Nature Reserve was declared in 1956 over an area of 638 ha to protect the scenically significant asymmetrical ridge of the Broumovské stěny with a series of rock towns. It is located about 4 km west of the town of Broumov.

The most interesting parts of the Broumovské stěny are made accessible by a dense network of marked hiking trails and paths, which allow a relatively comfortable passage through otherwise difficult-to-traverse terrain. Numerous lookout peaks (Hvězda, Supí koš, Koruna, Božanovský Špičák, and others) offer views not only of the nearby rocky terrain and the wider surroundings of the Policko and Broumovsko regions, but also to distant horizons with the characteristic outline of the ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains, the Owl Mountains, the Orlické and Bystřické Mountains, and across Poland’s Kłodzko Basin as far as the distant Králický Sněžník and the Jeseníky Mountains.
