The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks National Nature Reserve was declared as early as 1933, covering an area of 1,771 ha, to protect well-preserved complexes of rock towns. The reserve lies roughly in a triangle defined by the municipalities of Adršpach (basic settlement unit Horní Adršpach), Teplice nad Metují, and the peak Čáp above the village of Skály.
The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks, with their hundreds of isolated and bizarre rock towers, are a popular rock-climbing area. Climbing here has a long and colorful history. Particularly characteristic of the local rock climbing are smooth slabs, cracks, and chimneys of various widths. Some scenes of the film adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and the Czech fairy tale The Third Prince were filmed in the rock town.
