Hora Svaté Kateřiny is a small town located in the Czech part of the Ore Mountains near the Saxon border. The first written mention dates from 1480, and in 1528 it is already mentioned as a small town. Hora Svaté Kateřiny was originally a mining settlement. Silver was mined on the slopes of Městský Hill even before 1520, and later copper as well. Even today, there are a number of abandoned shafts in the surrounding area. After the deposits of mineral wealth were exhausted, the inhabitants began to engage in textile and woodworking production.
The town’s landmarks include the Church of St. Catherine and the Marian column.
In the immediate vicinity of the border crossing, you can visit the Mikuláš adit. The area around the town is crisscrossed with cycle paths and hiking trails. On Růžový Hill stands a lookout tower offering a beautiful view of the peaks of the surrounding hills and picturesque valleys. The tower is 16 meters high and open to the public.
