The history of the village of Stará Ves begins in the 13th century, when Bishop Bruno founded a settlement on the site of today’s Stará Ves, which belonged to the Rabštejn estate. Great development in the village occurred after 1721, when Alois Harrach took over the estate, and later Ferdinand Harrach.
At present, there are several points of interest in the village, including the statue of St. John of Nepomuk on Potočná Street. It is a late Baroque sculpture from the late 18th century, currently after a comprehensive restoration. Further, in Žďárský Potok it is possible to see a group of folk architecture with preserved, mostly log and stone buildings. A technical monument can be considered the still-operating power plant near Anenská Huť. On the Podolský stream there are two other modern small hydroelectric power plants.
Besides these monuments in the village, we can also find memorial trees—sycamore maple and several linden trees.
The ascent to the Jeseníky ridge via the Alfrédka chalet (currently burned down) toward Jelenní studánka is beautiful, and then along the ridge trail either toward Skřítek or to the summit of Moravia’s highest mountain—Praděd (1,492 m above sea level).
