The Orlík water reservoir is part of the Vltava Cascade. The dam got its name from the castle that once rose above the deep valley of the Vltava and today lies only a few meters above the surface of the reservoir lake. Of all the Vltava dams, the Orlík Dam is the largest, highest, and most massive. Its 511 m long dam reaches a height of 91 m at the crest. By the volume of water it holds, it is the largest reservoir in the Czech Republic. The dam is also used for recreation, swimming, and yachting.
