Harrachov is situated in the western part of the Krkonoše Mountains on the border with the Jizera Mountains, in the valley of the Mumlava River. Its mountain climatic conditions, caused by the enclosure of the southern side by Čertova hora and the openness from the north via the Novosvětský Pass, predetermine it as a center for winter sports and recreation. Although the altitude of 680 m above sea level (at the church) is not particularly impressive, there is some truth in the locals’ claim that in Harrachov it is cool for half the year and winter for the other half. Thanks to the local terrain, which is suitable for skiing, Harrachov has grown into a world-famous ski center, providing high-level services for winter sports. Harrachov can offer a range of downhill slopes with artificial snowmaking of varying difficulty. It boasts two four-seat chairlifts up to the top of Čertova hora, many kilometers of maintained cross-country ski trails and routes up to the ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains. A number of training areas for beginner skiers and children await you, ski schools with experienced instructors, sports equipment rentals, and more.
