The town of Vrchlabí (German: Hohenelbe) forms the gateway to the central part of the Krkonoše Mountains and is the region’s natural metropolis. Vrchlabí is located almost in the center of the Krkonoše Mountains, making it a very suitable starting point for tourists. For cycling enthusiasts, the “Bikearena Krkonoše” was opened here—off-road cycling trails. In winter, the town becomes a ski resort thanks to nearby Herlíkovice with a modernly equipped ski area and the Bubákov ski area and Kněžický vrch. The surrounding terrain is groomed into white cross-country tracks. The town of Vrchlabí also offers many facilities for sports and relaxation—tennis courts, spinning, a solarium, a sauna, a football stadium, a sports hall for volleyball, basketball, floorball or indoor football, bowling and skittles, etc. For a quiet walk or a relaxing run, the town parks are available.
