Písek, founded in 1243, is a historic town on the Otava River. Its landmarks include a Gothic church with a clock tower and the oldest stone bridge in Bohemia, dating from the 13th century. The town once served as a regional seat and was an important center of Hussitism. Today, Písek is a modern town with theaters, schools (including the Film Academy), and rich infrastructure, proud of awards for quality of life.
