The first mentions of the town of Pag date back to the Romans, who settled the area around today’s metropolis even before the Common Era. On the site of the original settlement, Stari Grad, you can today find the remains of a cathedral and a monastery. From the 15th century, Pag became a center of salt production. Here, residents extracted salt in the traditional way on shallow plots until the end of the 20th century. Today, the salt era is commemorated by the Salt Museum.
