The town of Kutná Hora is known primarily for its urban conservation area listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. Thanks to silver mining, which peaked in the 13th to 15th centuries, it was one of the most important Czech royal towns in the Middle Ages. The town’s dominant feature and at the same time its most visited historical monument is a jewel of late Gothic architecture—the Church of St. Barbara.
