Dubrovnik is a Croatian port town located in the south of Dalmatia. The town of Dubrovnik has always prospered from maritime trade. In the Middle Ages, it was the center of the Republic of Dubrovnik, a maritime republic that rivaled similar state entities on the Adriatic coast. Today, the town of Dubrovnik is one of the main tourist destinations on the Croatian Adriatic coast. As a UNESCO-listed city, Dubrovnik has a large number of different landmarks. More than 220 buildings are also listed on the Croatian register of cultural monuments.
