The town of Velké Meziříčí is among the important Moravian towns in the southeastern part of the Vysočina Region. It lies at the confluence of the Oslava and Balinka rivers, in close proximity to the D1 motorway between Prague and Brno.
In 1990, the area of the town’s historic core was declared a conservation zone. Among the town’s most significant landmarks are the château, the Church of St. Nicholas, the town hall, Jewish synagogues, and many others.
