Strakonice is a district town in the South Bohemian Region at the confluence of the Otava and Volyňka rivers. The town is known for the International Bagpipe Festival, which takes place every two years at the end of August, and is attended by bagpipers from more than a dozen countries.
There are historical monuments in the town, above all the 13th-century Strakonice Castle, the Baroque Marian column on Palacký Square, the Church of St. Margaret, and the Jewish cemetery.
