The town of Sázava lies in the valley of the river of the same name in the Benešov District. In 1997, Sázava was granted town status. The most significant monument is the former Benedictine monastery on the right bank of the river, which was founded in the 11th century. Sázava is also renowned for its glassworks with the world-famous Kavalier brand.
