The dominant feature of the market town of Křivoklát is Křivoklát Castle, towering on a promontory above the Rakovník Stream. It is an important royal castle from the 13th century, significantly remodelled under Vladislaus II Jagiellon, later the ancestral seat of the Fürstenbergs, and since 1929 it has been state-owned. In 1989 it was declared a national cultural monument.
