Hardegg is a small, picturesque town in northern Austria, located right on the border with the Czech Republic, captivating visitors with its unique setting and historic atmosphere. The town’s landmark is Hardegg Castle, rising above the Thaya River. Narrow lanes, historic houses, and a peaceful environment give the place an almost fairytale character, attracting visitors looking to relax away from busy tourist centers. Thanks to its size, Hardegg is considered one of the smallest towns in Austria.

For hiking enthusiasts, Hardegg is an ideal starting point for exploring Thayatal National Park (Podyjí), one of the best-preserved river valleys in Central Europe. The surrounding area offers numerous marked hiking trails leading along the meanders of the Thaya River, through forests, and to viewpoints with breathtaking panoramas. Popular routes include crossings between Austria and the Czech Republic, for example toward Čížov or Vranov nad Dyjí.
