Žilina is the fourth-largest Slovak city, located at the confluence of the Váh and Kysuca rivers. The historic center of Žilina is architecturally cohesive. At its heart is Mariánske Square.
In the surrounding area there are several castles and chateaux. Among the best-known are the two Strečno castles, Lietava, Lietava Castle, Hričov, the ruins of Súľov, and Budatín Castle. For hiking you can head to Malá Fatra. If you prefer spa relaxation, then visit Rajecké Teplice.
