The town of Pula is a Croatian town located in the west of the country, in the southern part of the Istrian Peninsula. Pula is a popular tourist destination and is visited by around a million tourists each year. Among the visited sites in the vicinity of Pula are the Brijuni archipelago (and Brijuni National Park). On the southern edge of Pula itself is the Punta Verudela tourist center, above which rises an Austro-Hungarian fortress. The symbol of the city and the main tourist attraction is the 1st-century AD Roman amphitheater.
