On the map
The town of Bystřice pod Hostýnem lies at the foot of the Hostýn Hills at an altitude of 308 meters. The oldest record dates back to 1368. However, Bystřice did not receive the title of “town” until almost 500 years later, in 1864. The town reached its greatest prosperity after 1861, when Michael Thonet founded here a then world-unique bentwood furniture factory. Probably the most attractive place in the surrounding area is the pilgrimage church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on St. Hostýn. In the town itself, you can find the former Loudon Castle, which is gradually being opened to the public, the Church of St. Giles on T. G. Masaryk Square, a chapel in the former—now closed—cemetery, and the former Thonet villa.
