Sněžka (in Polish Śnieżka, in German Schneekoppe), at 1,602 m above sea level, is the highest mountain of the Border (Silesian) Ridge of the Krkonoše Mountains, of Bohemia and the entire Czech Republic, and of all of Silesia.
It is a prominent landmark in the eastern part of the Krkonoše Mountains. The Czech–Polish border runs across the summit of Sněžka. A chairlift cable car leads to the summit from Pec pod Sněžkou, 4.5 km away. The northern, Polish side drops into the valley of the Lomnička River, the southern part into the Giant Valley, the western into the Úpa peat bog, and the eastern transitions into the Giant Ridge.
The top of the mountain is rocky and has an area of about 120,000 m2. As Sněžka is the highest mountain in the wide surrounding area, there is an extensive panoramic view from the summit. The summit is a frequent tourist destination, and to reach it it is possible to use a whole range of tourist routes—on foot, by bicycle, and on cross-country skis.
