The town and safe harbor of Cres lies on the west coast of the island of Cres, in the deep bay of the same name, which is sheltered by the surrounding hills. In recent decades, Cres has become a very popular resort. The ancient townscape, the remains of the town walls with a defensive tower, as well as the customs and culture of today’s inhabitants, bear witness to the almost eight-hundred-year influence of the Republic of Venice.
