The town of Beroun lies in the valley of the Berounka River, surrounded by the protected landscape areas of the Bohemian Karst and Křivoklátsko, and provides an ideal starting point for trips into the surrounding countryside. Active recreation in the town is offered by the popular cycle path along the river or by one of the sports facilities such as an aquapark, skatepark, children’s traffic playground, and many others. The town is practically surrounded on all sides by hills and forests. A number of marked hiking trails run through the landscape. Nearby excursion destinations include Karlštejn, Svatý Jan pod Skalou, Koněprusy, and others.
